Voyager Tarot Thoth Tarot Tao Oracle
I began using Tarot decks in 1975. I have studied and used a wide variety of Tarot decks. I tend to favor contemporary decks that move away from the medieval and Christian emphasis of earlier decks, decks that include descriptive words on the cards that point to associated meanings, cards that are colorful, and decks with associated books that explain the symbols, art, and concepts that the designers had in mind when they created the decks.
After considerable practice with Tarot decks, I have found that following three Tarot decks work best for me for contemplation, meditation, magic and divination:
1. The Voyager Tarot.
This photomontage deck was designed by James Wanless. The photographic collage
artwork was created by Ken Knutson. It was first published in 1984, and
then in 1991
and 2008.
2. Tao Oracle. This deck was designed by
Ma Deva Padma in 2002. It is based on the Chinese Book of Changes,
the I Ching.
3. The Book of Thoth. This
deck was designed by Aleister Crowley and painted
by Frieda Harris. It was created in 1942, and first published as a Tarot
deck in 1969. The deck comes in large and small sizes, and the artwork
colors vary somewhat depending upon who is publishing and printing the deck.
