"Eden is that old-fashioned House
We dwell in every day
Without suspecting our abode
Until we drive away."
-   Emily Dickinson

Finish work on pump house, move new lumber to outdoor shed.
We worked hard all day from 5 am to 8pm on solving the garage and home
electrical projects.  Karen and I purchased electrical and wood supplies at
Home Depot.  We took breaks indoors to rest and hydrate as the
temperatures outdoors soared to 103 degrees.  No time or energy for
exercise - work was very tiring.

"Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist."
-  Ralph Waldo Emerson

We worked hard all day from 5am to 8pm on solving the garage and home
electrical projects.  Karen and I purchased paint and other supplies at
Home Depot.  We took breaks indoors to rest and hydrate as the
temperatures outdoors soared to 102 degrees.  .

I'm not teaching tai chi or yoga at TFFC on Saturdays until September 10th, 2005.
I recommended the reduction because few people were attending and I had
other activities and projects scheduled on the weekends in the summer.
No time or energy for exercise - work was very tiring.

Our vegetable garden is looking great and we eat vegetables from it every
day.  We have been drying apricots and plums.  Lots of extra watering
to match the high outdoor temperatures.

Updated quotes on seeing and vision.

"When you walking along naturally, you're walking in the
harmony of the Unborn."
-   Bankei (1622-1693)

We worked hard all day from 5am to 8pm on solving the garage and home
electrical projects, and other home repair and remodeling projects.  We took
breaks indoors to rest and hydrate as the temperatures outdoors soared to
100 degrees.  We worked on attic fans and rewiring electrical lines.
No time or energy for exercise - work was very tiring.

Karen has been drying ripe Santa Rosa plums from our garden.

"In illusion what is true?
Illusion is from the outset true.
In illusion what is manifested?
The very illusion itself is manifestation.
If this is so,
then one can never be apart from illusion?
No matter how you seek illusion,
     you won't find it."
-   Ts'ao Shan, 840-901,  Roaring Stream

4th of July Holiday in America - Independence Day.

We worked hard all day from 5am to 2pm on solving the garage and home
electrical projects, and other remodeling and home repair projects.  We took
breaks indoors to rest and hydrate as the temperatures outdoors soared to
98 degrees.  We finished work on attic fans and rewiring electrical lines.

Joined Philip, Margaret, Marcella, and Christina in Chico for poolside conversation
and dinner at Tres Hombres.  They were up to attend a CSU Chico orientation
for new students (Marcella) and their parents on Tuesday.   We had a delightful visit
with my brother and his family.

"Master, I am new here.
What is your teaching?
"Have you already eaten your gruel?"
Yes.
"Go wash your bowl."
Master, what more can you teach me?
"ABCDEF."
I do not understand.
"GHIJKL."
Thank you, Master."
-   Yun-men (864-949), Blue Cliff Record and Book of Equanimity

Worked on the garage and home electrical projects all day in 100 degree heat.  It was
a challenge to carefully and accurately rewire numerous household circuits.  I'm making
some progress, according to my ophthalmologist, on my eye infection.

I taught my first Tuesday night yoga class from 5:30-6:45 at  TFFC.  I did my own
style of workout.

Enjoyed a nice conversation about Taiji with John R. Soares.  He moved from
Arcata to Mt. Shasta City.

"A vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves,
a call to become something more."
-   Rosabeth Moss Kanter

Worked on the garage and home electrical projects from 7am until 2:30 pm.  Another
day of 95 degree and higher heat.
Had an appointment with my podiatrist, Dr. Swaim.

Weightlifting at TFFC starting at 4:30 for 40 minutes.
Spin bicycling class with Tanya from 5:30-6 pm at TFFC.  I usually begin the
cycling workout at 5:20 pm for an extra 10 minutes of cycling.
Yogalates class with Lauren from 6-6:45 pm.  This was a very good class,
I always learn a lot from Lauren.

All of my energy goes to working on home improvements.  I have done little
reading, research, or writing the past week.  I've learned more about home
electrical circuitry this past week.

Karen is a great cook.  She cooks a variety of foods.  Tonight we enjoyed
Thai food.

"Dust and sand in his eyes, dirt in his ears,
He doesn't consent to stay in the myriad peaks.
Falling flowers, flowing streams, very vast.
Suddenly raising my eyebrows - where has he gone?"
-   Hsueh-tou (980-1052),  Roaring Stream

Worked on the garage and home electrical projects from 6am to 3pm.  Installed

"Leaving the weeds, entering the weeds;
Who knows how to seek them out?
White clouds, layer upon layer;
Red sun, clear and bright.
Looking to the left, there are no flaws;
Looking to the right, already old.
Have you not seen the man of Cold Mountain?
He traveled so swiftly;
Ten years he couldn't return,
And forgot the road by which he came.
-   Hsueh-tou (980-1052),  Roaring Stream

I did my Morning Outdoor Exercise Program for 90 minutes at daybreak.

Weightlifting for 40 minutes at TFFC, spin cycling class with Tonya for 40 minutes,

July 9,  Saturday,  2005

"Finish each day and be done with it.  You have done what you could; some
blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can.  Tomorrow
is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered
with your old nonsense."
-  Ralph Waldo Emerson

I did my Morning Outdoor Exercise Program for 90 minutes at daybreak.
I trained at home indoors on our Schwinn 103 bicycle for 30 minutes.

"Asking without knowing.
Answering, still not understanding.
The moon is cold, the wind is high--
On the ancient cliff, frigid juniper.
How delightful: on the road,
He met a man who had attained the Path.
And didn't use speech or silence to reply.
His hand grasps the white jade whip.
And smashes the black dragon's pearl.
If he hadn't smashed it,
He would have increased its flaws."
-   Hsueh-tou (980-1052),  Roaring Stream

Worked on a variety of home improvement projects during the day.  Relaxed, read, and
wrote indoors during the afternoon hours while the  temperatures outdoors soared to

the details of daily life, and in elevating them to art."
-  William Morris

Worked on a variety of home improvement projects from 5am till 10:30 am.
Worked for CUESD in my office from 12-4 pm: grant work.

"As a rule, men worry more about what they can't see than about what they can."
-  Julius Caesar

Worked on electrical and cleanup projects.  Ditch running - so watering chores
in effect.   We met with the flooring estimator this morning.  Worked for CUESD
from 11-1 pm..

Karen and I went to Chico: lunch, shopping, bookstores, home improvement
research.  Purchased a dehydrator-dryer for drying fresh fruit.

Watering and vegetable gardening during the morning hours.  We have
lots of fresh vegetables and fruit in our garden.

Temperatures reached a peak of 106 degrees around 5pm.

July 16,  Saturday,  2005

"There is more to us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps
for the rest of our lives we will be unwilling to settle for less."
-  Kurt Hahn

Temperatures reach a peak of 105 degrees around 5pm.

I finally finished all the electrical rewiring projects - 7 of them - this morning.
This past 9 days I installed a rooftop venting fan in the garage, a rooftop venting
fan over the attic above our office, and a gable attic fan above our living and
dining room area.  We think these three fans really helped us keep temperatures
down indoors during this period of 104+ daytime temperatures.  All the new fans
are controlled by a separate switch.  I rewired the garage completely.  I finished
all the rewiring to distribute demands on to four different different circuits.  An
important project - COMPLETED!!!!  Probably saved at least $1,200 in electrician
services fees.

We use an evaporative (swamp) cooler in the roof in the center of the house.
Temperatures indoors are normally in in the upper 70's and low 80's.  There is
also insulation in all of the attic areas.

We went into Red Bluff to look at and select flooring for living room, hallway, and
two back bedrooms.  We finished painting the hall closet and put all the clothes
back into the closet.

Watering and vegetable gardening during the morning hours.  We have
lots of fresh vegetables and fruit in our garden.  I noticed 10 pole bean plants
coming up from my recent planting.  Ditch running - we moved hoses all day.

July 17,  Sunday,  2005

"Spring has its hundred flowers,
Autumn its moon,
Summer has its cooling breezes,
Winter its snow.
If you allow no idle concerns
To weight on your heart,
Your whole life will be one
Perennial good season."

The Golden Age of Zen, p. 286

Winter weeks we huddled by the hearth,
Spring days we shoveled snow,
Summer hours we stood in cooling rain,
Autumn minutes we stared at the setting sun.
We had idle thoughts, we had no thoughts.
Life made our hearts cry, and it lifted our spirits high,.
The ordinary, the exceptional,
The chosen, the accepted,
The good, the bad,
Fresh figs, rotten peaches,
The beautiful, the deformed.
They appeared and disappeared.
Samsara and Nirvana ....
Here and Gone.

-  Mike Garofalo,  Above the Fog

Worked on improving the green room study and hallway in the afternoon.  Painting

After months of frustrations with the ChicoNet web host, I switched today to
BlueHost.Com.  ChicoNet frequently was down or could not be found.  A last
straw was when I went to Google to look for the Eight Section Brocade.  Usually,
at the top of the list was my own document on the Eight Section Brocade Qigong.
It was nowhere to be found.  This means when Google went on a spider update,
the could not find www.egreenway.com on the WWW.  I can't afford to spend hundreds
of hours creating wepages only to have them disappear from the WWW because the
web host can't provide the service.  Many times, when I tried to access the site
using ChicoNet I would get a message that the website did not exit.

This is my 3rd web host for www.egreenway.com.  We shall see.

Switching is a huge job in itself.  All files need to be FTP'd to the new server.
Email accounts need to be set up.

BlueHost offers a number of add-on packages loaded via the Fantastico cPanel.
I plan to switch my weblog (blog) to one of the options, and add a photo gallery,
among other options.
