Facts, Information, Insights, and
Interesting Quotes
"In the United States, every 8.4 seconds, another baby boomer turns
50. From 1990 to 2020,
the elderly population is expected to increase to 54 million persons.
At the current rate of growth,
there will soon be more grandparents than youth. Americans 50 and
older control 70% of all
U.S. wealth, bring in $2 trillion in annual income, own more homes than
any other age group,
account for 50% of all discretionary spending, and purchase 41% of all
new cars. 16 million exercise
at least three times a week. They spend more per capita on
groceries, over the counter and other
health products, travel and leisure than any other age group."
“It is safe for most adults older than 65 years to exercise. Even
patients with chronic illnesses such as heart disease, high blood
pressure, diabetes, and arthritis, can exercise safely. Many of these
conditions are improved with exercise. If you are not sure if exercise
is safe for you or if you are currently inactive, ask your doctor.”
“Every American should accumulate 30 minutes or more of moderate
intensity physical activity over the course of most, preferably all,
days of the week.”
